HAA 2020 SACI Grantees

This is a public service announcement. These artists received a well-deserved grant from the Houston Arts Alliance through a competitive process.

As of September 17, 10:00pm, eight-and-a-half months after receiving the grant, OUR names still haven’t been listed publicly on the Mayor of Houston’s Office of Cultural Affairs website. No press release, nothing. No celebration. Just a short video with names flying up the screen so quickly you couldn’t even read them, released on September 2nd, 2020.

Our grant term was for the calendar year of 2020. Eight months without recognition.

So here they are, give it up!
We will celebrate US here.

Two months into the pandemic, we found out that our grants got cut in half because of the pandemic. It took them six whole months to release our names.

This when the Mayor of Houston decided to increase the police budget by 19 million.

I’m not sure if the City of Houston is doing enough for its artists. Are you?
